Nissan D22 Navara 3.0L ZD30DI

Benefits of Remapping
More power and torque which results in:
– Not needing to change down gears as often to maintain speed up hills etc.
– Easier/quicker overtaking. ‘Don’t need as much of a run up’.
– Less turbo lag.
– Easier/nicer towing.
– Less driver stress pulling out onto busy high speed roads.
– A more linear and responsive accelerator pedal.
– Less ‘throttle lag’ so the accelerator pedal doesn’t feel as ‘doughy’.
– Less dead/flat spots so its smoother to drive.
Typically cruise EGTs and calculated load will decrease.
Emissions systems such as EGR, DPF, Adblue can be disabled if requested.
Glow plug timers can be reduced if requested. Some people believe these crack heads and want them reduced/disabled.

We have a Dyno Innovations chassis dyno in house that allows us to create a custom tune to suit your exact vehicle including any installed modifications.
Advantages
We obtain baseline figures of the vehicle including Power, Torque, Boost and AFRs.
We derive an understanding of current vehicle health and can address any issues that arise.
We can make changes to the tune based on how your vehicle responds. Typically this means more power and torque resulting in most response. The mail order tunes are made to be conservative to allow for slight variations between vehicles such as supporting modifications and wear. When the vehicle is on the dyno we tailor the tune to how it responds and get achieve higher gains and confirm/ensure conservativeness depending on our customers requirements.
We verify that the gains achieved are desirable and within whats expected. If there are issues they can be addressed.
If we don’t have an exact mail order tune to suit your supporting mods it doesn’t matter on the dyno as the tune is made to suit.
Disadvantages
Not available to those that aren’t local to us or do not wish to travel. We have customers that travel to us from pretty impressive distances but it’s not for everyone.
The cost is higher than the mail order options as the process is labour and tool intensive.
Our “Send In” Mail Order option is the cheapest way to have your ECU remapped however it requires you to have your vehicle off the road while your ECU is sent to us.
How It Works
- Purchase the ‘Send In’ option from our store. Ensuring all your details are correct including supporting modifications on the vehicle.
- Remove the ECU from your vehicle. Please refer to our guides section for instructions on how to do this if needed.
- Package your ECU securely. Please use adequate packaging to protect the ECU. ECUs that have an exposed plastic connector these will need extra protection as they can crack/break in transit.
- Post your ECU to us with your choice of carrier. The customer is required to organise (including payment of) inbound freight. PLEASE ENSURE YOU INCLUDE YOUR DETAILS THAT ALSO MATCH THE ORDER PLACED. Failure to do so will usually cause delays in the return of your ECU. We will usually receive a call from the customer after some time wondering where their ECU is where they can describe packaging etc to us.
- Once we receive your ECU we match this against your order and process it accordingly.
- Once your order has been processed we will book return freight and an automated email will be sent to you with an order update including tracking information.
- Once you receive your ECU back, reinstall into the vehicle, follow any additional requirements (such as increasing boost, etc, if required) which will be listed on the ECU and on this website.
- Enjoy the extra power and torque.
- Any questions or issues please feel free to contact us.
Advantages
Most affordable option available.
Your ECU will be remapped. You will send your ECU in and receive your ECU back.
Disadvantages
Your vehicle will need to be off the road while you send your ECU in to us. We normally prioritise all ‘Send In’ orders above other orders so usually the courier is the longest part of the process. If you would like an up-to-date turn-around time please contact us.
Our “Exchange” Mail Order option is the cheapest process to obtain a ECU remap while keeping your vehicle on the road.
How It Works
- Purchase the ‘Exchange’ option from our store. Ensuring all your details are correct including supporting modifications on the vehicle.
- We will process your order accordingly. We prioritise our ‘Send In’ orders over these so there may be a delay between the day your order is placed and when your order is sent out. Please contact us for an accurate lead time. Once your order is processed you will receive an email that states the exchange order is sent and we are waiting for your stock ECU to be returned and will also include tracking info.
- Once you receive the remapped ECU, install it in your vehicle following our installation instructions in the guides section of our website. Follow any additional requirements (such as increasing boost, etc, if required) which will be listed on the ECU and on this website.
- Once installed/setup take it for test drive and ensure everything is working as it should.
- Using the included prepaid post bag and original packaging, send your original/stock ECU back to us. After properly packaging the ECU drop it off to your post office. Postage has already been paid for.
- Enjoy the extra power and torque.
- Any questions or issues please feel free to contact us.
Advantages
Most affordable option available that allows you to keep your vehicle on the road for the entire process.
Disadvantages
You will receive an ECU from our stock. These ECUs come from wreckers and other customers that have opted for the Exchange option. We guarantee that they are functional and will be just as reliable as your existing ECU.
Our “Outright” Mail Order option is for customers that wish to keep their stock ECU. The main reason we typically see for customers wanting to keep their stock ECU is if they do a lot of water crossings/bog holes and want to keep a spare on them incase they come across water damage from water in the cabin.
How It Works
- Purchase the ‘Outright’ option from our store. Ensuring all your details are correct including supporting modifications on the vehicle.
- We will process your order as per your supporting modifications. The lead time will vary as we prioritise all send in orders. For an accurate lead time please contact us.
- Once your order has been processed and is on its way you will receive an email notification including tracking information.
- Once you receive your order, install into the vehicle using our installation instructions in our guides section if needed and follow any additional requirements (such as increasing boost, etc, if required) which will be listed on the ECU and on this website.
- Enjoy the extra power and torque.
- Any questions or issues please feel free to contact us.
Advantages
You keep your stock/original ECU.
Disadvantages
Most expensive option.
ECUs are not brand new. They come from wreckers and previous customers of our exchange process. We guarantee that all ECUs are functional and in good order.
Our Handheld Programmer offers you the flexibility to change tunes and return your ECU to stock all via the OBD port.
You are purchasing our handheld programmer (that you keep) along with a predetermined tune for your vehicle according to your supporting mods.
How It Works
- Purchase the ‘Handheld Programmer’ option from our store. Ensuring all your details are correct including supporting modifications on the vehicle.
- We will process your order and send out one of our handheld programmers which you will own outright. You will receive and email with tracking information once your order has been dispatched.
- Once the Handheld Programmer arrives connect it to your vehicles OBD port and have it read your ECU.
- Once it has read your ECU you will need to install the software on a Windows based PC which will download your stock file and send it to us.
- Once we have your stock file we will be able to supply your tuned file/s as per your order.
- You will receive a notification that your tune files are ready to download. Connect the Handheld Programmer back to your PC and download the tune files to it.
- Your ECU can now be remapped with our tune file. Follow the prompts to write the tune to your ECU.
- Any questions or issues along the way please contact us.
Advantages
No downtime for the vehicle.
Ability to have up to 5 tunes stored on the programmer.
Ability to return your ECU back to stock (for example warranty work).
Easy programming of your original ECU.
Disadvantages
Higher associated costs than some of our other mail order options.
Extra hardware which may be unnecessary if you don’t wish to revert to stock or change tunes.
Modifications/Variables that can effect the tune
There are many variables that can effect how a vehicle is tuned and what the final power and torque output of the vehicle will be. Some of these variables are listed below.
Aftermarket exhaust
Aftermarket intercooler
Custom engines
Aftermarket turbo
Bigger injectors
Water-Meth injection
Aftermarket intake side (including airbox) on the higher power tunes
LPG injection
Engine wear
Typical Gains

We have listed some basic ‘stages’ of modifications and the corresponding power and torque outputs to give you some idea of what can typically be achieved. We have tunes to suit in between these ‘stages’ for mail order and if the vehicle is on the dyno they are kind of irrelevant although still an okay indication as to what may be achievable.
Our Stage 1 Tune was designed to suit a stock vehicle. This tune can be run on a vehicle with other supporting mods but to make the most of them we would select a tune to suit.
Power and Torque Increases:
The dyno graph to the right shows the general gains we see in power and torque from our mail order Stage 1 Remap.
Torque:
Before: Peak Torque of 294Nm at 2700rpm
After: Peak Torque of 418Nm at 2200rpm
Peak increase of 42% or 124Nm and peak torque comes in at 600rpm lower in the rev range.
Power:
Before: Peak power of 69.0kW at 3700rpm
After: Peak power of 86.9kW at 3600rpm
Peak increase of 26% or 17.9kW across the majority of the rev range

Our Stage 2 Tune is designed for cars with the following modifications:
- Aftermarket turbo back exhaust system 2.5 or 3.0 inch
- Aftermarket turbo capable of running 20PSI reliably
- Intercooler. Can be top or front mount. If top mount needs to be a decent installation with a good seal around bonnet scoop.
- Ideally an upgraded airbox to allow for more flow (and to take some stress of turbo). Stock airbox is useable.
- Boost controller set to 20PSI
- Fuel cut defender to rescale boost levels for the MAP sensor to retain factory overboost protection. Some vehicles may not need this.
Power and Torque Increases:
The dyno graph to the right shows the general gains we see in power and torque from our mail order Stage 2 Remap. Unfortunately the dyno was changed between this tune and the stage 1 tune so the power figures aren’t straight forward. This customer was already running the Stage 1 tune so the ‘before’ figures are actually the power gains from stage 1.
The below figures will take into account the percentage gain from Stage 1 and add onto the gains shown in the graph to the right.
Torque:
Before: Peak Torque of 363Nm at 2300rpm
After: Peak Torque of 434Nm at 2000rpm
Peak increase of 19% or 71Nm and peak torque comes in at 300rpm lower in the rev range compared to the Stage 1 remap.
Peak increase from Stock to Stage 2 of 61% with peak torque 900rpm lower in the rev range.
Power:
Before: Peak power of 73.8kW at 3400rpm
After: Peak power of 90.1kW at 3000rpm
Peak increase of 22% or 16.3kW compared to the Stage 1 remap.
Peak increase from Stock to Stage 2 of 48% with peak torque 900rpm lower in the rev range.

Our Stage 3 Tune is designed for cars with the following modifications:
- Aftermarket turbo back exhaust system 2.5 or 3.0 inch
- Aftermarket turbo capable of running 24PSI reliably.
- Decent sized intercooler. Can be top or front mount. If top mount needs to be a decent installation with a good seal around bonnet scoop.
- Upgraded airbox to allow for more flow (and to take some stress of turbo)
- Boost controller set to 24PSI
- Fuel cut defender to rescale boost levels for the MAP sensor to keep factory overboost protection
- Highflow injectors +30% (we can also tune for +100% injectors)
Power and Torque Increases:
The dyno graph to the right shows the general gains we see in power and torque from our mail order Stage 3 Remap.
Torque:
Before: Peak Torque of 294Nm at 2700rpm
After: Peak Torque of 650Nm at 2300rpm
Peak increase of 121% or 356Nm and peak torque comes in at 400rpm lower in the rev range.
Power:
Before: Peak power of 69.0kW at 3700rpm
After: Peak power of 129kW at 3600rpm
Peak increase of 86% or 50kW

Our Stage 4 Tune is typically what we see to max out the performance of these motors. The Navara drivetrain (diffs and gearbox) may be unhappy at this level.
This tune needs to be verified on the dyno. We can do it locally or you can find a dyno operator local to you to run it up to verify its all okay. We can make changes where required.
The following modifications are required:
- Aftermarket turbo back exhaust system 3.0 inch
- Aftermarket turbo capable of 34-38PSI. Larger turbos may need less boost for the power due to turbo efficiency but 34-38PSI is a general rule of thumb. We recommend fitting a VNT setup suitable for the ZD30 Patrol for this as their boost regulation is better suited to this application. Contact us for information on suitable turbos.
- Large Intercooler. Ideally frontmount or a decent W2A setup.
- Upgraded airbox to allow for more flow.
- VNT boost control setup if running a VNT turbo.
- Fuel cut defender to rescale boost levels for the MAP sensor to retain factory overboost protection.
- Highflow injectors +100%
Power and Torque Increases:
The dyno graph to the right shows the general gains we see in power and torque from our mail order Stage 4 Remap.
Torque:
Before: Peak Torque of 294Nm at 2700rpm
After: Peak Torque of 743Nm at 2460rpm
Peak increase of 171% or 449Nm and peak torque comes in at 240rpm lower in the rev range.
Power:
Before: Peak power of 69.0kW at 3700rpm
After: Peak power of 184kW at 3600rpm
Peak increase of 166% or 115kW
