ZD30DI GU Patrol ECU Installation

Tools Required:
  • 8mm Socket
  • 10mm Socket
  • 10mm Spanner can make it easier
  • Phillips screw driver
  • Extension and Universal Joint can make it easier
  • Ratchet to suit socket drive size

Step 1:

Disconnect negative terminal on batteries. (or positive if you fancy)

Step 2:

Locate the ECU via the drivers side footwell. It sits vertically on a bracket to the left of the footwell nearly ontop of the transmission tunnel.

Step 3:

It may be easier to remove the lower dash trim section to access the ECU. It’s not necessarily required, just do it if you think it’ll make your life easier.

If you aren’t doing this please skip this step.

  1. Remove single phillips drive screw from bottom left corner
  2. Remove two screws from bonnet release lever
  3. Remove two screws from fuel filler lid release lever
  4. Pull on bottom edge of trim towards the drivers seat and the trim will unclip/come away from the dash. The fuel filler lid release lever will need to drop away from the trim.

Step 4:

You’ll see a large white connector with a single 10mm bolt in the centre of it. Unscrew bolt and you’ll see the the connector slowly unplug. The bolt is held captive in the connector (the bolt wont come out), once it’s loose the connector can be pulled away from the ECU.

Step 5:

There are two 10mm nuts and one 10mm bolt holding the ECU bracket to the body of the vehicle.

Step 6:

Remove the four 8mm bolts securing the cradle to the ECU.

Step 7:

Install the remapped ECU into the cradle and install in vehicle.

Step 8:

When reconnecting the ECU connector make sure that there are no foreign objects in the ECU side connector and the loom connector is clean and free of debris. Carefully seat the connector ensuring it is square to the ECU (so when screwed in it goes in straight). Tighten connector bolt until tight and connector is fully seated again ensuring connector is seated properly.

Step 9:

Reinstall trim and reconnect battery.
